The reinvention of the iconic Mercedes-AMG® SL has been the talk of every driver on Long Island since it’s unveiling yesterday on the Mercedes-AMG® Youtube Channel. Seen as a symbol of performance and luxury for ages, this new seventh-generation debut is shaking things up with some dramatic changes. Let’s start under the hood and the vehicle’s appearances. The new 2022 AMG® SL will be offered in SL 55 and SL 63 variants, both with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, with an estimated 0-60 MPH time of 3.8 and 3.5 seconds for the SL 55 and 63 respectively. This all sounds great but the biggest surprise is that for the first time ever, the new SL 55 and 63 will include standard 4 MATIC+, the Mercedes-Benz and AMG® name for all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and adaptive dampers, making the vehicle not only sporty, but also practical. The four-wheel steering allows for the sporty roadster to cut it’s turning radius by about two and a half feet, while the adaptive damping gives added stability. Additionally, an optional front-axle lift system can raise the front of the car by 1.2 inches. With an included software that allows the vehicle to remember location such as your steep driveway, the low exit coming out of the Shopping Centers on Jericho Turnpike, and more, the convertible can activate this function automatically. Now that we know the new SL 55 and 63 can pack a punch, let’s get to arguably the most important part, is the car aesthetically pleasing? In our books, yes. The redesigned SL-Class is one of the most beautiful releases we have seen from Mercedes-Benz and AMG® these past few years. Can you blame us? The alluring red color in the release trailer was nothing if not eye-catching! With a shark-like design, this new release is aggressive and sporty looking. The car is 185.2 inches long and its wheelbase is 5 inches longer than its predecessor. With a smoother, rounder appearance, the wide Panamericana Front Grille Looks especially stunning. Perhaps more so with triangular LED headlights that perfectly contract the smooth, flowing lines of the overall design! This new release will also be available in many paint colors such as matte options, a bright teal “Hyper Blue”, and much more, making it truly customizable. Similar to the all new 2021 S-Class, shown in one of our newest Youtube videos featured on our channel, and available at our dealership, the body looks extra sleek with flush door handles. One bigger feature that many are excited about is the return of the soft-top on the SL 55 and SL 63. The top gives the vehicle a lighter weight by 46 pounds, making the vehicle more gas-efficient than before. According to the debut, the top is also said to be able to open and close in 15 seconds up to 37 MPH. With all of these new features, plus the 20 or 21 inch wheels, the SL-Class is sure to please the eye. This convertible Mercedes-Benz is a prize both inside and out. Part of the main joys of riding or driving in a Mercedes-Benz is how innovative and luxurious the interior of the vehicle is. What’s new about the 2022 SL 55 and SL 63 is that they both will feature a “2+2” seating arrangement, meaning that these beasts will be able to seat 4 comfortably. The cabin is now larger as well. Unlike most Mercedes-Benz vehicles near you at this time, the digital instrument cluster and large center touchscreen are separate entities, instead of spanning across one sizable piece of glass as people are most used to seeing with the MBUX System. Drivers will be able to adjust the center touchscreen’s angle to help reduce glare from 12 to 32 degrees when necessary. Isn’t that helpful? The turbine style air vents also add a nice touch in making the vehicle have a few standout points that define the interior as “hyper analog”. Using high quality and sustainably sourced materials throughout, you can tell this vehicle was made for the greats. As with many of the Mercedes-Benz vehicles being released as of late, the technology integrated within them is usually the first of its generation, as well as something that becomes a set point for other luxury car brands to seek inspiration from. To name a few, the vehicle will have standard Active Multicontour Massage Seats, Navigation, Heated Steering Wheel, a Surround View Camera System, Burmester Surround Sound Speakers, AIRSCARF® Neck Heating Technology, “Hey Mercedes”, and of course, Ambient Lighting. Mercedes-Benz Vans are celebrating 15 years in Charleston. Over 200,000 Sprinter and Metrics have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations all over the U.S. In 2006 the small Charleston plant had only 100 employees and was performing semi-knockdown assembly. There are now more than 1,600 team members in the Mercedes-Benz Van facility in North Charleston today!   The Sprinter Van has been a huge success in the U.S. market, so in 2015 they made the decision to expand the existing re-assembly operation into a full-scale production plant with a new body shop, paint shop, and extended assembly building in time for the launch of the new Sprinter. The new facility has been running since 2018, with an investment of more than $500 million. It was announced that the eSprinter is coming to Charleston in 2023!Ever since the plant was established 15 years ago in Charleston, it has been a key pillar in Mercedes Vans global production network. Eventually the company will be able to meet the demands for battery electric vans and are able to respond to different markets while making optimum use of their capacities. The company is very excited to be the first to produce the next generation of the eSprinter. Although new to the Electric Vehicle scene, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has exceeded many drivers across the world’s expectations by going above and beyond what is considered the norm for many EV’s that have been coming to the market as of recently. A range of 300km can easily be charged in 15 minutes according to their experience, beating the Tesla Model S in terms of range and efficiency. All in all, with the amazing technology such as the Hyperscreen, the sleek design, efficiency, and more, the German magazine concluded the EQS is “the really best electric car in the world!” as read through a quick Google Translate. According to them, “The engineers have given everything to be as comfortable, economical, efficient and contemporary as possible”. When asked “Does that mean that electric pioneer Tesla is beaten? “ they responded with “Simple answer: yes. That is exactly the direction in which electro-mobility must go”. As many Mercedes-Benz and Tesla drivers around the Huntington area wonder when walking past the Tesla dealership in the Walt Whitman Mall, “What electric vehicle is the best in 2021?”, it seems that there has been a clear answer; Look out Elon Musk! As many Long Islanders take to the roads for road trips, and vacations, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding everybody during National Tire Safety Month to check their tires to make sure they’re ready to roll. Properly checking and inflating your tires is an important step to help make your tires last longer, save you money and protect you and your family on the road. During The month Of June “Tire Safety Month” NHTSA is sharing these tips for consumers: Conduct monthly maintenance inspections on your Mercedes-Benz, focusing on proper tire inflation pressure, treadwear and tire damage, in addition to recurring tire rotation and balancing, and alignment services. Proper tire pressure is the most important part of maintaining your tires. It affects safety, tire durability, and your fuel consumption. Check the pressure of all tires, including your spare, at least once a month when the tires are “cold,” meaning that the car hasn’t been driven for at least three hours. Check your tires’ tread at least once a month when you’re checking their pressure. Tires have built-in “treadwear indicators,” which are raised sections that run in between the tire’s tread. When the tread is worn down so that it’s level with the tread indicator, it’s time to replace your tires. Tire balancing ensures your wheels rotate properly and keeps the vehicle from shaking or vibrating. Always have new tires balanced at installation. Rotating your tires can help reduce irregular wear, which will help your tires last longer and maintain fuel efficiency. To maintain tire safety, purchase replacement tires that are the same size as the vehicle’s original tires or another size recommended by one of our factory trained Parts Advisors. You can check for tire recalls and file a tire safety complaint if you think there may be a problem with your tires at NHTSA.gov. The GT63 makes the top of the list for both power and price with 630 horsepower at $199,910 as-tested price. The M8 is priced at $167,245 for 617 ponies. The least expensive is the RS7 which is priced at $137,540 with 591 horsepower. BMW M8 Compétition Gran Coupe The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe's best qualities include quick start, quick stops, and an adolescently ferocious rear-wheel-drive setting. Although the BMW M8 can go 2.7- seconds 60-mph time and 10.8-second quarter-mile it would still come in behind against the GT63 but the M8’s all-out acceleration times beat the RS7’s.  The M8 is very well equipped with a big touchscreen, carbon-fiber trim, quilt leather, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated adjustable steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, adaptive cruise control, a menu of driver’s aids, and a more expansive menu of the aforementioned performance-mode options. Mercedes-AMG  GT63 S The Mercedes-AMG GT63 s qualities include steering, braking, and engine roar. The GT63 is the loudest of the group and can go 70 mph. With the loudest tires - wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s, can hold on to the skidpad with 1.05g’s. The GT63 can also go 2.6-second time to 60 mph and a 10.7-second quarter-mile with 129-mph trap speed beating both the Audi and the BMW. This vehicle is equipped with a visually and physically appealing interior. The rear seat offers much more space than the Audi or BMW. The steering and automatic transmission are very responsive. The car feels extremely light when going at its full potential. Audi RS7 Sportback The RS7 best qualities include serene ride, extremely fast, and massive cargo space. Its interior is cushioned with 14-way leather seats creating a smooth ride. It has a skid pad score of 0.98 g and can dead stop to freeway speed in 3.0 seconds. The RS7 has the largest cargo area out of the three holding the most carry-on-sized boxes in the test. It is the perfect balance of sportiness and luxury.
